Auld Enemies Cup

It was that time of year again when everyone at EWBG looks forward to, the Auld Enemies Cup!

This year we travelled up to Scotland on the 3rd September, with the International being held at the Cardrona Hotel and Golf Club, near Peebles. The weather was definitely on our side as it was in the mid 20’s all week with beautiful blue skies. The hotel was lovely, surrounded by the mountains and the course looked in very good condition.

Monday was a practice day for everyone, playing texas scramble, and also gave all of our players and guides a great opportunity to get to know the course.

The following day was when the serious golf started, and everyone was in good spirits. This was a foursome, playing alternative shots, and everyone came back happy after day 1.

Day 2 was a four ball and by the end of the day, Scotland were leading 5-1/2 to our 4-1/2 so we knew it was all to play for on the final day.

Day 3, and the final day was singles. It was very close throughout the day and many matches came down to the last 2 or 3 holes. Despite our best efforts, Scotland managed to win back the Auld Enemies Cup, winning 11 – 9.

This is what our Captain, Andy Gilford had to say. “It’s been an honour to be part of the International 2023 Auld Enemies Cup, and stand in to Captain England & Wales Blind Golf, sharing special memories with both teams.18 new players and guides across both teams, making lifetime memories and friends. Well done Scotland ”

We look forward to welcoming you all back to England next year.

If you are visually impaired, or know of anyone that is, and enjoys golf, we would love to hear from you. Should you live outside of England and Wales, we can also put you in touch with your local national blind charities.

Finally, a huge thank you to our amazing sponsors, Vitafresh Produce, Invotra and Adidas

Many thanks from all of us at EWBG
