Billy woke up one morning to find the world was totally black.  He literally lost his sight overnight. He lost his job, his marriage failed, and he was at rock bottom until he discovered blind golf.  He had never played before but is now one of the world’s top, totally Blind Golfers. This transformation has led to a full-time job and a new partner.

Danny thought he would have to stop playing golf when Age related Macular Degeneration meant his vision deteriorated rapidly.  At 80 years old he felt sure his life as he knew it would be over.  However, with his wife guiding him,  their relationship as husband and wife has been strengthened and he has represented England against Scotland and played in the World Blind Championships.

Bailey was 14 when his Dad contacted us.  We arranged for Bailey to join a local club as a junior and subsidised his lessons.  ‘As a family of 5 with three boys it’s always hard to fit the time in for all their sporting activities but having a child with sight loss is even harder just to find a sport he can participate in, I’ve always been a keen golfer myself and it never occurred to me that anyone with sight loss could do it, how wrong I was!!! Bailey took the game up about 18 months ago and never looked back. To be able to spend time with Bailey like I did with the other two boys growing up has brought us so much closer together.’

Questions and answers.

 

How do we get to Gaudet Luce Golf Club?

By Train to Droitwich Spa Station.  It may be easier to use a taxi from the station.  The number 19 bus stops at Suffolk Way which is a 20-minute walk.

Do I need to bring equipment?

Equipment will be provided but if you have golfclubs and prefer to bring your own please do.

Will there be guides available?

It would be better if you could bring along a friend or family member, but some guides will be available

Is there a maximum number of people able to participate?

Yes. To make sure everyone has a really good experience numbers are restricted to 30 and you will be divided into smaller groups.

Can I bring my guide dog?

Yes, guide dogs are welcome.

What should I wear?

Something comfortable and not restrictive, and trainers if you have them. You do not need expensive sportswear.

Are there changing facilities?

Yes, there is an area you can get changed in, but we would encourage you to arrive, ready to go. Directions will be given on the day about where you need to go.

Is there somewhere to eat?

Yes. There is a bar where you can buy light snacks and hot and cold drinks.

Can I bring my family with me?

Yes, we want this to be a fun day for everyone. As long as someone in your family group is blind or partially sighted, all can Have a Go

We do ask that children are always accompanied by an adult though. We don’t want anyone to get lost or hurt.

Do I or my guide need to have experience in playing golf.

No. This is a taster day and instruction will be given.

Who can attend?

Anyone who is blind or partially sighted is welcome to attend. Please note children must be always accompanied by parents or guardians.
